About
Windows Into Africa is a quirky, character filled family from the imagination of  my daughter Alaura. The design brief that I gave her was that all designs had to fit into a 30 cm x 40 cm perimeter and we had to have an elephant! After a few attempts, Alaura's words were "Mum, you just can't put creativity into a box!" Elka was just too magnificent to be part of the smaller group so we decided to make her  a beautiful stand alone piece.
 
Technique
A fun fusible appliqué design that can be blanket stitched by hand or machine. Display your finished appliqué in a frame, make it into a cushion or even a quilt. Finished size: 60 cm x 70 cm (24" x 28 ")
 
Requirements
70 cm x 80 cm (26" x 30") rectangle for the background fabric (We used linen)
Different coloured fabric scraps for the appliqué (We used batiks)
50 cm (1/2 yard) of fusible web and thread for blanket stitching
Optional 60 cm x 70 cm (24" x 28") picture frame
